The provincial government tabled its budget for the year and included tax cuts and a reserve fund. The $17.6-billion budget features $500 million in tax cuts for Nova Scotians including a one per cent drop in the H-S-T to 14 per cent, a hike in the minimum wage to $15.70 an hour and an increase in the provincial portion of the basic personal amount which people claim for income tax. Other savings include the removal of bridge tolls in Halifax and parking fees at Nova Scotia Health facilities. The deficit is projected to be $697.5 million but that could go up if a $200 million reserve fund needs to be used.
