Nova Scotia's auditor general has found that the provincial government is not effectively tracking the billions of dollars it sends to universities. In a new report, it is revealed that the funding structure for grants allows universities to spend the money on areas it wasn't intended for, such as student aid and staff salaries. Additionally, the report highlights that the province has not assessed whether health education grants are achieving government-established healthcare priorities. However, new funding agreements with performance targets are expected to improve accountability.
